Meal Plans

What are the benefits of a Purple Meal Plan?

Unlimited dining in the dining halls. Don’t worry about cash or credit cards and save on your dining purchases whenever you use your meal plan.

How do I use my Purple Meal Plan?

The plan you choose allows you 15, 40, or 70 retail Pirate Meals per semester in addition to unlimited access to the dining halls and a declining cash balance account called "Purple Bucks." Purple Bucks roll over from Fall to Spring Semester, but they do not roll over from academic year to academic year.

Where can I use my Pirate Meals?

Meals may be used in any retail dining location that offers a Pirate Meal option. The retail locations that don't offer Pirate Meal options are Starbucks, Einstein Brothers Bagels, Reade St. Market, Pirate Market POD, C3 Belk, C3 Bate or Center Court. When dining at Todd or West End Dining Halls, your card will be swiped when you enter to verify that you are on a residential meal plan, but it will not deduct any meals from you, unless you have a commuter meal plan.

Will my Purple Bucks rollover to the next semester?

Purple Bucks roll over from the fall to spring semester, but they do not roll over from academic year to academic year. For upperclassmen and transfer on-campus residents selecting the $600 Purple Bucks account, Purple Bucks must be spent by the end of the semester. Additional Bucks added to any meal plan or the $600 Purple Bucks account during the semester will carry over until graduation, at which time you will receive a refund minus a processing fee.

What do I do if my Purple Bucks run low?

The same thing you do if your debit card balance runs low. Simply make a deposit to your account by cash, check, money order or credit card. You must make a $50 deposit each time you reload. Go to the Campus Dining Office in Jones Residence Hall, tell them you want to replenish your Bucks and they’ll take care of you. You may also call (252) ECU-FOOD to add Bucks by phone using a credit card. You can also go to the homepage and click the link at the top of the page. Deposits may also be made by calling or visiting the ECU Cashier’s Office.

Can I use financial aid to pay for my meal plan?

If you receive financial aid, you may waive payment for a Dining Plan until you receive your aid. To do so, the Office of Student Financial Aid must issue a deferment through the cashier’s office.

What are the benefits of a Gold Meal Plan?

Don’t worry about cash or credit cards and save on your dining purchases whenever you use your meal plan. Meal plans and Gold Bucks are accepted at all Campus Dining Locations (cash, Visa, and MasterCard are also accepted). New for the 2014-2015 academic year, Gold Bucks are now accepted at athletic venues that offer concessions.

How do I use my Gold Meal Plan?

The plan you choose allows you 120, 100, 80, or 40 meals per semester in addition to a declining cash balance account called "Gold Bucks." You may use as many meals as you wish at any given time. All meals must be used by the end of the semester or they will expire. Gold Bucks carry forward with a refund at the time of graduation minus a processing fee.

Where can I use my Gold Meals?

Meals may be used in any dining location except coffee shops, Einstein Brothers Bagels, and C-stores. When dining at Todd or West End Dining Halls, one meal will be deducted from your balance. If you are treating a friend or colleague to a meal, two meals will be deducted from your balance. Meals may also be used at any of our other locations. Just let the cashier know that you would like to use a "meal" to pay for your purchase and the meal rate for that meal period will be deducted.

Who can sign up for an Commuter Meal Plan?

This plan is available to commuter students, faculty, and staff only.
